Happy Birthday Coast Guard! The United States Coast Guard celebrates its 234th birthday today.

The Coast Guard was established on August 4, 1790, when the first Congress authorized Secretary of Treasury, Alexander Hamilton to construct ten vessels, known as “revenue cutters,” to combat smuggling and enforce tariff laws. Hamilton carried out his charge with enthusiasm, which is why he is known as “the father of the Coast Guard.” Since then, the Coast Guard has kept our nations waterways safe, playing a critical role in our country’s national security.

The Coast Guards mission is to protect the public, the environment, and U.S. economic interest in the nation’s waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region in support of national security.

As we celebrate the birthday of the United States Coast Guard, Zeiders sends a special thank-you to our employees who have an affiliation with the Coast Guard as a member, veteran, spouse, child, or parents, living everyday Semper Paratus (Always Ready). Zeiders is proud of our people and inspired by our shared core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.

Happy Birthday Coast Guard!
